updated with the major enhancements of 3.2 over 3.1 in case you didn't

Thank you very much for your work. I love Shoes on Windows. I would love
to install it on Ubuntu 12, but I get an error message that there are
illegal UTF-8 characters in the shell script. The error message doesn't
say any more than that. The progress bar is at about 2/3 and I never saw
the installation form. The shell script becomes visible on GEDIT at this
point, but I am completely clueless there. I get a message box asking if I
want to try installing again with UTF-8 or another format. I have tried
the UTF-8 again, but not the other format. I used the 32 bit Linux shell
script.
uname -a => 3.2.0-76-generic-pae #111-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 13 22:34:29 UTC
2015 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Bart

Hi Bart

    What you describe is very odd. Did you download the x86_64 or i686
version ? The installation procedure is terminal based, not GUI.

$   chmod +x shoes-3.2.21-gtk2-x86_64.install
then execute it
$  ./shoes-3.2.21-gtk2-x86_64.install

There's no progress bar to speak of or installation form.

Hi just tried downloading it.
It failed when avast virusscan flagged it as a win32.evo-gen threat

Eelco,

    I'm not sure why avast would do that. It would be extremely hard to
get a windows virus into Shoes since it's not build on Windows. Perhaps
they there is something in the NSIS installer that triggers avast but
even that was build on Linux. The only fix I can provide is to disable
avast long enough to install Shoes.

Hi Cecil,

I have managed to download it and started playing with it just now.
The oddest thing though. I opened the interactive prompt Alt + =.
I can time anything except for ` ' and " which makes setting any typed
text impossible as strings just end in errors without them.

It should be normal IRB behaviour which can be confusing with strings
and mistakenly hitting return before closing the string. It's not the
way to write Shoes programs however, it's for playing with little bits
of Ruby.

It's possible there is a code page/font problem on Windows. It wouldn't
be the first time. Which windows are you using and which code page?.
