Font rendering with borders issue?

Font rendering with borders issue?

Hi Folks,

I've been noticing some issues with the way fonts are rendered different
with or without borders. If I put a border around a para, it looks like
the text has been turned into a bitmap and then given a border. The fonts
are extremely pixelated on OSX, but I don't know if this is the case on
other platforms.

Without borders, the fonts render as expected.

Any ideas/thoughts? Known issue? Easy fix? ;)

Cheers,

ast

Hi Andrew,

I ran the following snippet with Shoes 3 on Windows 7 and got this:
http://www.rin-shun.com/tmp/with_or_withot_border.png

Shoes.app do
  stack width: 150 do
    border red, strokewidth: 10
    banner 'hello'
  end
  stack width: 150 do
    banner 'hello'
  end
end

There seems no different, though...

(sorry about the HTML previously)...

that would mirror what I see in Mac OS X.

Hi,

Interesting. Look what happens when you reverse the order:
http://atownley.org/files/fonts.png

#! /usr/bin/env open -a Shoes.app
Shoes.app do
  stack width: 150 do
    banner 'hello'
  end
  stack width: 150 do
    border red, strokewidth: 10
    banner 'hello'
  end
end

Was driving me bonkers for a few minutes because I couldn't figure out
what was actually happening, but then I noticed I wasn't trying to do both
in the same app.

Seems like the anti-aliasing is lost when the border is drawn.

Thanks for the verification on Windows. I'm guessing it happens there as
well, although arguably the non-anti-aliased fonts look a bit better than
on OSX.

Cheers,

ast
