Release plans for Policeman

Release plans for Policeman

Okay guys, If we want to make sure that we've got Policeman out by Whyday,
we should get slightly better organized, I think. We've got some really good
momentum going, if we can keep it up, it'll be great!

So here's what I'm proposing, to replace the Shoes Roadmap wiki page:

Objectives for Policeman:

- Move all dependancies to the latest
-- I think this is largely done. Except for gems. Right?
- Finish 1.9.1 support
-- We're basically good to go. Or at least, there are bugs related to this,
but shoes builds and mostly works.
-Fix the installer
-- This worked on Snow Leopard, are there still problems on other platforms?
- Documentation
-- Move the archived articles to the shoes site, off the wiki
-- 'how to contribute to shoes'
--- 'using git and github'
-- "Who's doing what" needs fixing up
- PR

Is there anything else that I'm forgetting?

Now, one of the big things is 'who's doing what.' I don't want to make any
of this more formal than it has to be, but maybe one of us can step up and
make sure we've got our bases covered for platforms, at least? It seems like
we've got this so far:

- Ashbb, Windows XP
- i5m, OSX PPC
- Me, OSX Snow Leopard
- Cecil Ubuntu (maybe?)

Does anyone have easy access to Vista/Windows 7? Or tiger/leopard? Cecil,
would you be cool with handling Linux stuff? It'd be nice to know we can
make builds and test across all platforms...

Oh, and one more thing that needs done: I think we should start using the
Issues on shoes/shoes for real. Would anyone mind (and I might start doing
this too) going through and seeing if any of them can be closed? They're
almost all really old... and if not closed, at least tagged so we can know
what needs to be knocked out?

Anyone have any other thoughts on this? I'm pumped.

I think these are reasonable and achievable.

Yeah, I'll stand up and take the Ubuntu Arrow in the back. I'll even
figure out git so I can branch properly ;^)

Indeed, Issues (bug reports) need to be closed. The mailing list is fun
and good but the bugs and what-the-huhs need to be more formally dealt
with, within the ability of the github platform to do issue tracking.

I've got a script that that I wrote (and never use) that updates it's
local file store from yahoo finance. As a test case/sample, it might be
useful.

Steve,

sorry forgot to reply to this. Getting an email regarding one of the issues
prompted me.

Please, please(!) do this. Myself and ashbb have been going through an
commenting, etc, but we've not been able to close anything out or tag it
appropriately (platform, shoes release, etc).

Ashbb, i5m, I just added you guys to 'team shoes', see if you can update/tag
issues now.

As far as I can tell it hasn't helped. Tried the "switch context" thing, but
still can't do anything to issues,

Thanks, Steve.

But I also can't close any issues...

Could you guys try again? If this doesn't work, I'm totally stumped, and
I'll email github support.
