Start of The List

Start of The List

This list was setup for the discussion of anonymous remailer development
(but should be open to any Cypherpunk issue or topic of interest within
reason). It may be a temporary location for communication until a proper
home is found. It was inspired by a discussion on the topic of
http://mixminion.net/ and expanded further until it was necessary to find
a new forum.

Thanks for setting it up, Sir V.

Brief summary of what I'm working on:

Smartphones need remailer clients. As an Android user I'm starting
with that platform.

Len Sassaman and I have had some long discussions (which should
probably be had all over again here) about what
remailers-on-smartphones should behave like -- anonymous SMS is
actually the concept we started with, the idea there being to serve as
a transport to Twitter or other services with SMS gateways. However,
abstracting all that away for a moment, the core principle I'm working
from is *unlinkability between the message and the device it came
from*. I am assuming an adversary who can link a real person to a
device and observe device activity in realtime, so the device
basically serves as a proxy for the individual with respect to
identity.

Code-wise I am working on porting the current Mixmaster 3.0 source
tree to Android using NDK, following the Orbot build instructions
(https://svn.torproject.org/svn/projects/android/trunk/Orbot/BUILD).
Once I have a command-line build working I plan to add a frontend
suitable for both phones and tablets, and maybe remove the ncurses
dependency. It is, however, debatable whether this ought to be used as
anything more than a framework through which to build a proper
Mixminion client; there's a whole architecture discussion to be had
about that.

Cheers,
