Howdy List

I was hoping someone would give me an excuse to come try out Librelist -
thanks Pat.
What am I doing with Rails? Right now I've got six or eight active
projects for clients, with team sizes ranging from 2 to 12. Some are
all-contractor teams, some are a mix of contractors and employees. Over
the last six months or so I've been gravitating to more of the project
management work, because I'm good at it and because most other devs want
nothing to do with management. It's a living, anyhow.
Challenges? One is keeping reasonably current on too many tools; as a
contractor, I'm not always in a position to pick the plugins or gems or
test stack or server stack. Moving back and forth between, say, Test::Unit
and RSpec means having to know enough to be dangerous in either one
without being a real expert in either. So I tend to get a broad but
relatively shallow exposure to many parts of the Rails world.
The other main challenge I see in my Rails future is what to do when (if?)
Rails 3 actually ships something. So far I haven't seen anything in the
commit logs that makes me willing to take the pain of jumping to Rails 3.
But does that mean I'll be stuck on an aging and unmaintained Rails 2? I
call to mind some people I knew who used to be very successful dBase
consultants, and then mildly successful dBase maintainers, and then out of
a job entirely.

LibreList has an annoying bug(?) though, it's List-Id header is formatted
like this:
List-Id: rails.excellence@librelist.com
not
List-Id: rspec-users <rspec-users.rubyforge.org>
The lack of angle-brackets means you can't filter on "Has the words:
'listid: rails.excellence@librelist.com'" in Google Mail.
Yes, I always am this pedantic :) Interested to see more about LibreList though.
I'll post a serious AND useful introduction at some point.

Zed is actively seeking developers for the LibreList project:

It'd be worth at least entering a ticket at the support site on this.
