Hello Everyone, This is just a friendly reminder that the next Ottawa Android meeting is tomorrow the 19th of January and it starts at 6:30pm. As stated we have the following presentation: Sexifying your Android UIs - Chris Saunders If you have something you want to show don't hesitate, we'll surely have time for people to present anything they are working on or tools they are using. Cheers, -- Christopher Saunders http://christophersaunders.ca/
After looking through the archives I realized that Simon Mac Donald mentioned PhoneGap. So we'll also have a presentation on this neat html/css/js framework for creating native applications. Looking forward to seeing it! Ack no, next month. Let me come to a meeting first. Oops! Didn't read the important parts from the archives. Would you mind giving a quick elevator pitch about the technology, then next month we can dive into it and see PhoneGap in action? Elevator pitch: PhoneGap is a framework which allows you to code your application in web standards like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript then wrap it in a native layer so it can be deployed onto the app store. PhoneGap also provides a consistent cross device API for accessing native features like Accelerometer, Contacts, Geolocation, Camera, etc. Currently you can use PhoneGap to target 6 devices types: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Palm, Windows 7 and Symbian. If you need additional functionality not exposed by PhoneGap there is an easy to use Plugin architecture to suit your needs. Ding! So I'm not a religious zealot when it comes to this technology even though contributing to the project is my day job. There will always be some apps that make more sense to be developed as native apps. However, if you need to target a lot of platforms and you don't have a huge development team it is a technology worth looking into to.
