Call for Presentations for January meeting

Call for Presentations for January meeting

Hello Everyone,

I would first like to thank everyone who came out to the last meeting.
Nothing was really scheduled, but we had an interesting talk about
monetization of apps, followed by a presentation by Marc Meszaros on how
to use TabHosts and the implementation of Packagable for sending objects
across intents.

I'd like to send a call out to everyone to see if anyone has anything
they would like to present for the next meeting. I'll be doing a
presentation on creating customized UIs on android, and will be focusing
on the XML implementation of these UI elements.

Enjoy your holidays, and we'll see you in the new year,

Hey,

I was unable to get to my first meeting yesterday as my 6 year old daughter
was nice enough to pass on her cold to me. I'd like to come out to the
January meeting to get to know the group and then maybe I could present on
PhoneGap in February. That would probably line up with the 1.0 release of
the project. I'm part of a group of IBM developers who are contributing to
the PhoneGap project with my primary responsibility being Android.

PhoneGap is a JavaScript library that enables you to access the native
functionality of your phone. Basically you develop your app in HTML5, CSS
and JavaScript and then compile it natively for Android, BlackBerry and
iPhone. The goal of the project is to enable developers to write their
application once and deploy it to multiple platforms.

What do you think?

Hi Simon,

I see no problem in that. I've been responsible for porting over a
blackberry client to Android and iPhone and know how frustrating it can
be to have to essentially write the code 3 times.

Look forward to meeting with you and seeing the demonstration of PhoneGap.

Heheh...I've heard some of the horror stories from the other devs on BB
programming. Luckily things got better in BB5.0 and now with BB6.0 and
webkit it makes the cross platform apps possible.

Hey Chris,

I was the FNG yesterday. Even though there was no presentation it was a
great round table discussion. I am not in a position to give a presentation
as of yet, but hope to in the future. To put in my own 2 cents. I would like
to suggest in the a later meeting if there is not presentation if people can
come to the table to show third party tools they use to develop.

Looking forward to the next meeting.
