Hi Everyone, Loic asked that I hop on here and give everyone my status. Basically, I'm really enjoying writing books and find I have limited time to work on Mongrel2 after I'm done doing all the other things during the day. I do check on the list and the fixes, and it looks like things are fairly self-managing, except for official releases. Currently my plan is to finish the draft of my book on C, and then work on Mongrel2 for a cycle, but I have a proposal. How would people feel about me officially turning the project over to someone else to manage and get releases out without my intervention? That way, y'all can work on it and make it what you want and I'm not a blocker to getting releases out. -- Zed A. Shaw http://zedshaw.com/

Agreed, and from what I've seen and tested there shouldn't be needed that much work left to turn develop into a new release and that's probably what most of us are running anyway. Plus, it's been 11 months and people keep on asking. > Maybe a good idea (when turning the project over to the new maintainer) would > be to write your thoughts about the project, what would you think to > be the "right path". That sounds like a good plan as well. Then there's only discussion left as for who it should be, but I can see only a small amount of options here. From a technical standpoint of changing the position at the helm, wouldn't this be a good time to open up a "mongrel2" organization on github? Apart from being able to update the website there shouldn't be anything else infrastructure-wise to consider. Still looking forward to having you back, though. Greetings, Florian

Well, probably not unless someone is willing to make the support for windows entirely and totally transparent such that nothing about the Unix build ever has to change to support it. My last experience with Mongrel (ruby) was that much of the basic process management needed and many of the socket APIs were just totally crap on Windows, so I was forced to cripple the Unix side of things to make it work. -- Zed A. I sure hope not.

I may see if I can get some donated hosting, and then find a volunteer to take over release management on the box that I get. After that I think things will just run fairly well on their own. Stay tuned. -- Zed A. Shaw http://zedshaw.com/
Hello, Would be happy donating hosting. If you need, ping me. It can be either dedicated box or kvm virtual machine or a special website running on Céondo's PaaS. It depends of the needs (in terms of bandwith etc. nothing to worry about, only maybe the day it goes over 20TB a month). loïc On 2012-05-13 08:09, Zed A. I think Mongrel2 is a great project with a great potential. Maybe a good idea (when turning the project over to the new maintainer) would be to write your thoughts about the project, what would you think to be the "right path". Not that this will totally guide the maintainer, but maybe will help. Thank you. -- Dalton Barreto http://daltonmatos.com
