I think that has a specific reason, i.e. compatibility break. What version of LM are you using? As it is only VLC it will definitely not break your whole system. Hence, it is worth to try it. But my initial question regarding your version actually referred to whether you are using LMDE or LM? If LMDE it might be that those packages are hold back because they expect a certain update packages which are now delivered by LMDE. Hi Robert, My version is the latest LMDE. Using it to test it. Learning experience. Not as a main system. Running it on an external USB disc. My main system is Debian 6.03. It is about six packages that is held back. Tried them one by one to install. Problem - dependencies - not installable - etc. Thanks for your input.
