MediaWiki accounts

I suspect that our wiki has been targeted by some bot creating dummy
accounts.
Are they really fake or (I'm dreaming) they are all the old Eiffel users
coming back?
I think we shall stop the account creation, or at least avoid automatic
creation.

Hi,

Cyril and Paolo, thanks for keeping an eye on the wiki! I just modified
the settings such that anonymous sign in is prevented and only the
members of the user group "sysop" is able to create new user accounts
with the Special Page:
http://wiki.liberty-eiffel.org/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup

Maybe we have to update to a newer MediaWiki version, to be able to use
new extensions as ConfirmAccount. But so far I use the version that
comes with debian, to have automatic security updates. ConfirmEdit would
probably also help to prevent spam, But for legitim users I do not want
to put a burden on editing.

I hope, that we are on a good way with the current solution, please
raise your voice, if you have better suggestions!

Regards,
Rapha
