I'm also having a similar issue. I was able to install Leiningen on my home
computer, but can't install it at work, because (I think) of the way our
proxy server is configured. I'm getting this error message when I try to do
a "self-install":

A self-contained installer that doesn't require Internet access would
greatly simplify things.
