State of internationalization

State of internationalization

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if there has been any progress on i18n so far.
If not I would offer my humble programming skills to work on this if possible.
Since this will be my first contribution to a larger open source project I would
appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction and I will try to
do the best I can.

Cheers!

Hey there!

There has not been any direct work done, no.

I would love to have this happen, but you should have some perspective
on what's going on with the project in a broader sense first.

Basically, Hackety isn't getting any development currently. The reason
is that shoes, our main dependency, is very flawed, and has a lot of
problems on modern OSes. Therefore, Team Shoes is doing a full
rewrite, based on JRuby. You can find it here:
https://github.com/shoes/shoes4

Once that work is done, Hackety will need some minor porting work, I'm
sure. We're trying to keep it very compatible, but things are still
complicated. Then real improvements can start.

So, if you'd like to figure out i18n, that'd be great, just know that
it may have to be re-done later. :/ If you're willing to help out with
Shoes, that'd be super fantastic.

In that case I'll start digging through the shoes issues list on
GitHub and try to help out where I can.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Cheers,
Rodrigo
