New to HH, attempting a build on OS X 32-bit

New to HH, attempting a build on OS X 32-bit

Hi, all. I'm new to the list, but I've had my eye on HH since _why
introduced it long ago (my daughter's finally interested!).

I've got a 32-bit Intel Mac that I'd like to run HH on, and I see that I'll
need to be the one to make that happen :), but I might need some help.

First question: is it worth getting HH up and running on another platform,
especially this strange dying-off breed? It occurred to me that I could also
fire up a Linux or Windows VM and install HH there, but I thought I could
hear Steve wishing for a 32-bit machine to make a build on.

If it's worth pursuing then, as I understand the situation, the primary
roadblock is Shoes, not HH itself. Is that right? I have almost managed to
build Shoes (the beast!). The build completes, but shoes-bin crashes during
launch. If that's the first step, I'll mosey over to Shoes for a while until
I get that under control, but HH is what I'd really like to get running.

Thanks for the hard work and the entertaining mailing list. Not often you
get to laugh while getting up to speed on a project!

Hey Eric!

This is correct! I don't own one of these computers, but I'd love to get a
build going.

100% true.

Congrats! It's a bit rough right now. :/

Yep. If you open Console.app (which is in /Applications/Utilities) you
should get a message about why.

If you can get Shoes running, then you can get Hackety running.

Now, here's the deal: I _have_ been working on this. A user emailed me a few
weeks ago, and we've been working hard on making it happen. I think we're
really close. But let's talk about this over on the shoes list (
shoes@librelist.com) and we'll see if we can't get anyone else involved too.
:) Make a post there with the error you get from Console.app, and we'll dig
in!
