Twitter's RSS URL's

Twitter's RSS URL's

I'm trying to add an RSS feed from Twitter, so that I can see Tweets in
Friendica without using the Twitter connector. But something very
strange is happening. Here's an example URL I might enter:

https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=marcan42

When I try to add this URL as a contact in Friendica, the contact
appears to add, but no posts show up, and if I click on the contact, I
instead get sent to:

http://twitter.com/#!/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=marcan42

Which redirects to:

https://twitter.com/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=marcan42

Which consists of a Twitter API error saying the page does not exist.
This happens for all Twitter RSS feeds which I've tried. Other RSS feeds
work fine in Friendica. The original URL works fine in other RSS
readers. Is there any reason why Friendica might be messing up the URL
like this?

Thanks.

Just found this [1] on StatusNet that Twitter seemes to have changed the path

http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=ioerror

Maybe you are redirected towards the new API endpoint already? Twitter
will drop current API in March this year and with it the RSS/Atom feeds
so we will need something new to follow Twitter contacts anyway.

I have not looked up the new documentation for the endpoints, and
following nick@twitter.com seems to work for my (last added Twitter
contact was just before XMas for the 29c3 and that contact works).

We're only trying to make it work.

We rely on community support to keep stuff with proprietary networks
working. Sometimes networks like Twitter and Facebook and Google make
our job impossible as they change their protocols and our community
cannot figure out whatever black magic they require to keep it working.

Okay, so this was mostly a user stupidity error, although partially an
incomplete documentation error. Adding as a contact a URL of a profile
e.g. https://twitter.com/marcan42 works fine, even though I don't have
the Twitter connector. Adding as a contact the RSS feed from the
Twitter API directly triggers the problem I described previously (I
assume because it's trying to parse the RSS URL as a Twitter URL). I
had assumed that I would need the Twitter connector to add Twitter
users, so I figured using the RSS feed would be a good idea... any
chance the documentation for the Twitter connector could be updated to
make clear that reading publicly viewable Twitter posts works fine
without the Twitter connector, i.e. the connector is only necessary for
things that you require a Twitter account for?
