Problem installing flask-wtf with pip and virtualenv

Problem installing flask-wtf with pip and virtualenv

Hello,

I'm trying to install flask-wtf using pip on a virtualenv and I get a
weird error. apparently the setup is trying to install the package in
/Library instead of the virtualenv directory.

the error I get is "error: could not create
'/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/flask_wtf': Permission denied"

any ideas?

Hi,

I once ran into a similar problem, and the solution was rather silly: I
forgot to do "source env/bin/activate" after entering the virtualenv
directory. By doing this, you ensure to override your system-wide pip with
the version installed under your virtualenv.

I don't like to assume something this obvious because of the risk of
sounding pedantic, but you never know...

Best regards!

I agree with Jean, at the risk of sounding condescending, it looks like you
may not have an active venv, or you may not have the envvar
PIP_RESPECT_VIRTUALENV (iirc) set.

thanks everyone for the replies,

I was running "pip" in an active virtualenv, as I do usually with other
packages, but for some reason it kept insisting on installing this package
in /Library. which explains the permission error, the user I use does not
have permission to write on /Library but it shouldn't since my virtual envs
are in ~/.envs

anyway, I ended up installing flask-wtf from source system wide

Which "pip" binary are you using? You need to either activate the
virtualenv (source bin/activate) then call pip, or explicitly call the
pip binary in the virtualenv (bin/pip installl flask-wtf).

The error is that you don't have permission to write in the directory, are
you using sudo or using virtualenv?

Make sure your user have the right to write before trying to install a new
module.
