Social Integretion

Social Integretion

I saw the issue opened 4 months ago to Share via Social Network Buttons
(https://github.com/exercism/exercism.io/issues/809) but it was closed
because Katrina didn’t want to integrate until the UX stuff was more
figured out. As far as I could tell I didn’t see any more discussion about
it on the mailing list, but I’d be interested in this feature.

When I submit an exercise I post it to Twitter already, and have even
gotten people to join exercism because of the tweets I’ve posted. I think
that exercism has changed a lot in the last 4 months and although it’s
still bootstrapped and not the final design that Katrina is working on
(which, by the way, looks fantastic! :D) I would like to reintroduce this
idea and would be more than willing to submit a PR with this feature.

Although, I do understand if Katrina doesn’t want to go that route until
the final design is up I would definitely like having an easier way to
tweet when I finish an exercise, but I could keep doing it the way I am
now until the new design goes live.

Side note: That is so cool!

I'm open to accepting a PR for integrating with twitter.

Are there other social networks that you'd want to integrate with?
I have to admit that I'm incredibly skeptical to integrating with facebook.

I would not want to integrate with Facebook, the developers I’ve talked to
about Facebook have all pretty much expressed that Facebook is something
they keep around because of family/old friends. I personally don’t add
developers on there and don’t use it for anything more than keeping up
with family/friends.

Twitter is the main social network I’d like to integrate with and seems
like the main one that developers use to connect with each other, I think
it lends itself well to integration with Twitter:

“I just submitted the [language - exercise] at exercism.io! Take a look at
my code and leave me a nitpick [link to exercise]”

I can’t really think of another social network that would really lend
itself to sharing that.
