Hi all Was going to go about buying a domain name, already have a slicehost slice so getting a Rails/Sinatra app up and running for hosting a small user group website should be straightforward. Does anyone have any suggestions for domain names that they would like to use? birmingham-ruby.whatever seems a bit long to me. Thanks Omar
BRUG seems to fit the naming conventions but someone else already has it: https://www.gandi.net/whois/details?search=brug.org.uk I'm not opposed to a long URL if it is more descriptive though. We should probably also try to be sure and indicate that it is the UK Birmingham. Wouldn't want any ruby enthusiasts working for city council to get confused (again). This is the American Birmingham user group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/rubyham/ On Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 8:31 PM, Omar Qureshi <omaraliqureshi@googlemail.com> wrote: > Hi all > Was going to go about buying a domain name, already have a slicehost slice > so getting a Rails/Sinatra app up and running for hosting a small user group > website should be straightforward. > Does anyone have any suggestions for domain names that they would like to > use? > birmingham-ruby.whatever seems a bit long to me. > Thanks > Omar
Hopefully a .uk name would indicate that so does birmingham-ruby.org.uk sound ok? Hi Omar, On Friday 11 Dec 2009 14:00:18 Omar Qureshi wrote: > Hopefully a .uk name would indicate that Agreed. > so does birmingham-ruby.org.uk sound ok? I've never liked domain names with hyphens in them. How about: birminghamruby.org.uk birminghamrubyusers.org.uk brumruby.org.uk or my slightly silly (but perhaps easily confusable) favourite: rubyham.org.uk :-) Pete. > > On Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 1:39 PM, stephen.boisvert@gmail.com < > stephen.boisvert@gmail.com> wrote: > > > BRUG seems to fit the naming conventions but someone else already has it: > > https://www.gandi.net/whois/details?search=brug.org.uk > > > > I'm not opposed to a long URL if it is more descriptive though. > > > > We should probably also try to be sure and indicate that it is the UK > > Birmingham. Would be willing to drop the hyphen, the less letters the better. Although I *really* like rubyham.org.uk it seems a bit weird too, unless anyone has any objections I will plan on buying both birminghamruby.org.uk and using brumruby.org.uk as a secondary domain name.
