How do I resume a backup?

How do I resume a backup?

Hi there

My backup was interrupted. Now when I try to resume:

(attic)16:17 jean@klippie:~/venv/attic$ attic create --verbose
/media/.../attic::backup-`date +%Y-%m-%d` ~/mnt/archive
attic: Error: Archive backup-2015-03-30 already exists

How do I tell attic to continue with the interrupted backup?
Will I end up with

backup-2015-03-30
backup-2015-03-30-another-try
backup-2015-03-30-some-more
backup-2015-03-30-a-bit-further
backup-2015-03-30-finally-complete

?

mnt/archive is sshfs-mounted, and my network sometimes drops.

Regards,

When a backup is interrupted for me, I can restart it without changing
the name. If the backup is interrupted before about 5 minutes, no
archive is created in the repo. If it is interrupted after 5 minutes,
an archive named <original name>.checkpoint is created. In either
case, there is no conflict with the original name.

Checkpoints need to be manually removed, which is probably the safest
way for attic to work.

Maybe Jean can try again and verify this behaviour? Could it be that
the backup had *just* finished when it was interrupted? Or maybe
another process created an archive with the same name?

This is not the case for me. I haven't bumped into any .checkout names,
and if I interrupt attic, the name last used is immediately unavailable.

I'm running Attic 0.14

I didn't try that yet myself, but from how attic works, I'ld assume that
you just try to backup again (and you use another name).

After it completed / worked, you could delete the failed archives /
checkpoints maybe.

OK, so the `...a-bit-further` approach ..

OK. This makes automatic resume a bit of a pain for now.

Thanks for the answer!
