Mac OS X Yosemite lock-ups

Mac OS X Yosemite lock-ups

I've been having my Atreus stop responding periodically on my MacBook Air
running Yosemite. The only remedy is to replug it, and that doesn't even
work reliably. It's flawless on my Linux desktop. Anyone else seeing this?

Yes it happens to me every so often. I can't be of any help however. I have
been doing the same thing to deal with the issue.

I've seen a similar issue on my MacBook Air, and have found that using the
other USB port (the one on the right) has solved the issue. In my case,
adjusting the plug in the socket also sometimes solved the issue, though
it's hard to say if that's 'cause I completed a break/make cycle incidental
to fiddling with the pressure, etc.

I was planning on trying a different USB cable before I discovered that the
other USB port was fine.

I use the same Atreus with iMacs and Thunderbolt Displays at work, and
haven't had any trouble; those slots, I will note, are vertical. It's
possible it's just a connector issue. The iMacs are also running Yosemite.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It may have been that I happen to plug it
into the left lately. Although I did have it plugged into the right the
other day, it was plugged through a hub that I suspected was the issue
until yesterday when it was in the left socket.

If the machine in question uses a low-voltage chipset, then I may have
seen something similar with TMK. Actually the whole reason I wrote my
own firmware was that TMK would cut out in the way you described
periodically when I was on battery power on my low-voltage Thinkpad. I
think it was tracked down to TMK thinking the machine had suspended when
it was really just the USB port that had gone into a kind of
power-saving mode. The atreus-firmware code doesn't do anything like this.

Anyway, you could watch to see if this only happens when you're on
battery power, and you could try the atreus-firmware codebase to see if
it's subject to the same problem; that could at least rule out
power-saving issues.

This all sounds very plausible. I use TMK, and the other day when it
happened I was definitely unplugged. Will try atreus-firmware the first
chance I get.

Thanks Phil!
