Hi, I’d like to setup a mailing list for a group of students from my school. My list has nothing to do with open source or even software (except the fact that we’re in computer science.) I could just create a @librelist.com list but http://librelist.com says this is for open source projects. Is it still okay to host that kind of list on librelist.com? If not, is the software available to install on my own server? Or maybe Lamson is enough on it’s own? (Lamson looks more like a framework for developing new applications, I’d like not to spend too much time writing code to re-invent the wheel.) Thanks, -- Simon Sapin
I think as long as it is about a community itself in open in nature and does not promote any "closed" things, it should be OK. Think what is the mail stuff you guys will be discussing. If it will be mostly about CS stuff I think it should be OK to host the list here. But if it is mostly college humor and fun site then probably not. DISCLAIMER: I have nothing to do with the admin side of librelist. These are just my thoughts and should not be taken as final word. PS: Zed might be the right person to enlighten us here. It's fine to include groups, I'm not particularly picky about whether it FLOSS or not, just that it's non-profit. I even let some for-profit companies in if they contribute a lot of open source. -- Zed A. Shaw http://zedshaw.com/
