Hello Hamed,

I am cc'ing the list, hopefully you finished the registration process
and will be able to get the reply from other people too.

Right now GeoNode uses the ISO 19115:2003 standard internally, and is
able to update the metadata records in the CSW server (right now
GeoNetwork) based on the user profile information (for contact
information).

It also populates automatically the bounding box record using
Geoserver to calculate it.

The Demo server is hosted and maintained by the kind folks at OpenGeo
they read this mailing list and my be able to set you up with an
account so you can try it for yourself.

Best,
Ariel

Hamed,

I kindly suggest you to keep geonode@librelist.com as the recipient of
this messages. Any email sent there will come straight to my inbox and
also to the inbox of people who may know more than me about the topic.

Answering your question, GeoNode keeps populates the right metadata
field in GeoServer (to link to geonetwork) and in geonetwork (to link
to the WMS services), apart from that, it keeps another copy in the
Django database that it uses to populate the info in GeoNetwork.

It is possible to update a new data layer and keep the metadata
intact. My suggestion, since this is your area of research is to
install geonode locally and start playing with it :)

Best of luck with your project,
Ariel.

Apparently Hamed is not the only person having trouble with the
geonode@librelist.com address. Oh well.

Pasted below from Tom Kralidis who is currently working on metadata
improvements in GeoNode.

--------

Hi: to add to Ariel's responses, yes, GeoNode links across
GeoServer/GeoNetwork/Django.

The initial metadata model is based on a subset of ISO 19115:2003 (see
associated underlying ISO template [1]), which is driven from the metadata
form for a given layer.

Note that there is development to abstract CSW functionality, as well as
support XML upload of ISO/FGDC/DC metadata [2]. As well, there is
development to further augment GeoNode's resource metadata model to provide
a more exhaustive subset of ISO metadata elements, in the spirit of
GeoNode's Django DB housing resource metadata and the CSW connecting to the
GeoNode DB, instead of the other way around.
