1.0 Beta Released!

1.0 Beta Released!

We just released GeoNode 1.0-beta!

What does this mean? After much discussion this afternoon, David and I
settled on the following:

(1) We have tagged master at its current commit as GeoNode 1.0-beta

On github: http://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/tree/1.0-beta
More on git tags: http://bit.ly/3oSGOT

(2) New development should go on the new branch 'synth'. All our previous
policies/practices for developing on master should be transferred to
developing on synth.
On github: http://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/tree/synth

(3) The release manager (me) will be responsible for pulling bug fixes from
synth to master, and tagging new fix releases towards 1.0

(4) You can download the release bundle at
http://dev.geonode.org/GeoNode-1.0-beta.tar.gz

(5) The live site is now using 1.0-beta release. Please test and assign any
bugs you find to the milestone '1.0 Release'

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to get us to
this release. We are now officially on the last stretch to 1.0!

To elaborate a bit - master is now the maintenance branch for the 1.0
series. When GeoNode reaches 1.1, master will become the maintenance
branch for 1.1.

The synth branch, in general, is where new features for the *next* minor
release series are merged. (Seb really didn't like the name 'develop'
but other than that we are following the diagram[1] that we've mentioned
a few times during this discussion.)

All work intended for the 1.0 release should go straight to master,
synth won't come into the equation until we start actually doing work
for the next release series (1.1). To my knowledge, we'll be working
full-steam on 1.0 features until 1.0 is release at the end of this month.
