Ah, the development kit is something I experimented with a while back and
never distributed because it wasn't much more reliable than the paver-based
system we're already using. I'll update the docs to say otherwise, but for
now please look at https://github.com/geonode/GeoNode/#readme for info on
getting started with GeoNode development.
You can also hop on IRC to ask for help getting set up, as long as someone's
around it's usually quicker than the mailing list for this sort of thing.
We use the #geonode channel on irc.freenode.net
