Hey all, after a hiatus from participation on fretwar I listened in again on this round and have to share something that profoundly disturbs me. So, this may apply more to Zed or whoever is shaping the UX... Is anybody else driven completely nuts by the way the text input field is one line? When making a comment it is completely impossible to view the context of what you are saying if you span more than one line. Critiquing a submission properly is not really possible in this design. How about a textarea? I don't have absolute measurements, but from glancing at a few submissions and their comments, comments tend to be an average of 3 lines per. I noticed that when replying to a comment there is a textarea provided. So you can make an initial comment with a one-line visual scope and sound like a dumbass but replies can be more cogent and intelligent. -- Dylan Clendenin 831.331.1484

Cool, looks like it's working. Also Dylan, since you been gone I wrote a decent little forum system: http://fretwar.com/forum Switch over to there instead of this list so that I can start getting feedback on it and have a more public record of this stuff. -- Zed A. Can I get emails for all forum posts? If not, it is not as good as this list to me...

No, I mean notification of all new posts. I want to read everything
that is going on, but I'm not going to dig through the web UI to find
new stuff.

Oh, I thought it does that. Yeah I'm pretty sure I cranked out notifications for all new forum posts, comments to those, etc. Or, wait do you mean include the text of the post in the email? -- Zed A. That would be nice, but as long as there is notification that's fine for now.

Yep, but I'll work on differentiating them a bit. For submissions the notification email is good, but for forum it should be more like the comments. Thanks. -- Zed A. Shaw http://zedshaw.com/

I wouldn't say it drives me completely nuts ... but your point is valid. So, I can I get a +1 for textarea then? The way I see it: input type=text lends itself to shooting from the hip stream of consciousness rambling, textarea lends itself to thoughtful, composed critiques.
