Just a humble suggestion, why don't we move to Google group ? Seems flask is getting more traction these days and I think if Flask has a presence in Google group, it would help organizing information sharing in most effective way. I just blocked flask-framework@googlegroups.com, can transfer the ownership to anyone who would interested in moderating. Cheers! Soj

The thing is that I used google groups for the other pocoo things and it was not a very pleasant experience for me. Librelist's plus is the simplicity and so far it has worked well for us. I know some people want batch delivery of mails but those are (i would argue) the minority. If you only want to read the archives I have a nicely rendered one on the website :-) Also it raises the entry barrier a little bit over Google groups which I think helps in general to keep the lists useful for everybody involved. To name few, 1) Searching through archive (this help reducing duplicate posts) 2) Options to choose not to deliver mails to inbox (or abridged) but just read them on web. (this is possible with librelist, but you would need to block/filter in your inbox) 3) Instant synching. 3) Highlighted unread messages. 4) Tree/flat view (Although librelist support tree view, I find its bit cramped for long threads) 5) Get summary of group activity (number of posts, users etc...) I like the simplicity of librelist, but Google group gives the same with more features. When the volume is around ~10 msgs/day, you will never feel its coming in your way, but wont be the case if volume is high, who knows if flask is bumped with lot more queries coming days ;-) On Sun, Oct 2, 2011 at 8:24 PM, Amirouche Boubekki < amirouche.boubekki@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi, > > 2011/10/2 Sojin <sojin.v@gmail.com> > >> Just a humble suggestion, why don't we move to Google group ? I'm against the idea of always going Google for solving issues. Google is not panace [1]. What I think is that we should do just like Google and eat our own food while still making the web a better place with more FOSS projects. Try "site: http://librelist.com/browser/flask/ dynamic subdomains" without quotes, it can be improved (maybe with sitemaps ?) but it works. > 2) Options to choose not to deliver mails to inbox (or abridged) but just > read them on web. My feeling is that inbox search feature and filters do the job. > 3) Instant synching. real time medias for the win! ;) > 3) Highlighted unread messages. This is solved by using the Mailling List instead of the web view quoted earlier or http://flask.pocoo.org/mailinglist/archive/ maybe an atom file could help a few. > 5) Get summary of group activity (number of posts, users etc...) The summary (One mail per week or per day) is nice to have. > I like the simplicity of librelist, but Google group gives the same with > more features. Granted. What I like about GG is that it has a web interface for submitting posts, which is friendly for people used to message boards. That is the feature that I think will benefit the most the community. I don't know how hard it is to implement. Like I said earlier, eating our own food will be best, but then we need fingers to hit keyboards, which is another story. Regards, Amirouche PS: I'd like to talk more about dogfooding and flask community http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food
As I said, I really like librelist simplicity, not against it. Moreover I'm all (was always) for supporting FOSS project, I really wish to see them flourishing. So yes, if this really help librelist, them I'm for it, At the end of the day it just about how a Flask query is being cleared, librelist is doing its job well and simple (just like python) :-) Rgds Soj On Sun, Oct 2, 2011 at 11:43 PM, Amirouche Boubekki < amirouche.boubekki@gmail.com> wrote: > I'm against the idea of always going Google for solving issues. I like the intimacy of the current system compared to Google groups, but one thing I'd love to see added to the librelist archives is a search utility (the Google "site:" search just doesn't do the trick). And while we're on the topic, I'd also love the option to show the an entire thread on a page (currently, individual messages are hidden until clicked on).

Disabling Javascript or adblocking http://flask.pocoo.org/static/mailinglist.js gets you that, but I guess the option could be added on the page. The code is here: https://github.com/mitsuhiko/flask/tree/website/flask_website
I read the Flask mailing list with gmail and it gives me all the search and threaded benefits. Sent from my mobile. Hi, What do you mean by organizing information sharing? What does Google Group have that Librelist does not? (I’m not especially against, just asking.) Regards, -- Simon Sapin
Hi, I agree with Simon, I have been actively managing a UG using Google Groups, eventually you end up receiving mails and then the terrible site layout (reminds of junky forums). I guess the current mailing list offers the same with simplicity and feel of a correspondence the geeky way. -- Regards Mohammed Khan Polyglot Follow me on Twitter for latest updates: http://twitter.com/khan_io On 02/10/11 3:17 PM, "Simon Sapin" <simon.sapin@exyr.org> wrote: >Le 02/10/2011 11:41, Sojin a écrit : >> Just a humble suggestion, why don't we move to Google group ?
